174532 2003-09-11 20:10:00 Oh thats great, i'm a "proud" user of win98se its not gay-like as Win XP is...and XP costs HEAPS.

Well not that long ago i downloaded all the critical updates for my machine. Seems there is 1 new one :

August 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (822925)

I was under the impression that Windows NT was no longer support by Microsoft some time ago to be honest. This is just another money scam! Damn hipocrits

Well.. Lets go one step further then.. I've not had to worry about any patches for Windows, nor IE since around 3 months back when I cleared Win2K and XP off my PC!

A virus? What's that???

174534 2003-09-14 00:46:00 microsoft is the VIRUS.

it might as well be with all these new vuneralbilities (sp?), just like that msblast dude said, stoping money and fix your software

174535 2003-09-14 03:48:00 I must say i feel lots safer on my 98SE PC than my XP pro one
its just as fast if not faster and I dont have to worry about the ever increasing number of essential patchs to repair all the flaws that keep being discovered

174536 2003-09-14 20:50:00 i agree. There have been patches and updates ever since Windows XP launch, and with that 1000's of more virus's.

I never had Win 98, i went from win 95 to win98se so im not to sure what went wrong in win98. Although sometimes win98se can become unstable and give me heaps of **** its still good

174537 2003-09-15 00:27:00 You can download a program from grc.com

GRC.com - "Our 29 kbyte "DCOMbobulator" allows any Windows user
to quickly check their system's DCOM vulnerability, then
simply shut down the unnecessary DCOM security risk"

174538 2003-09-15 01:01:00 Win98 works fine on 2 of my boxes. most probs where due to MS changing the memory management and driver model. A lot of win95 kit just wouldn't function-personnally happened on a couple of components I've previously had running sweet on win95-soundcard and modem. Even have IE6 running fine on on Win98., though not my browser of choice. Updates here-

www.microsoft.com

With all this nice OSS software being produced, earlier vers of MS Windows are going to be around longer than MS would like.
