| 174881 | 2003-09-13 02:38:00 | I want to install Office 97 to my computer running Windows XP Home. It seems to install OK but gives a message when I try to run Access " Cannot start because there is no licence for it on this computer". I have run the microsoft Access 97 registration, but this gives a message that no retail copy can be found on my computer. A check of the Add/Remove Programs does not show Office 97, so I cannot uninstall and reinstall. Running Windows Install Cleanup does not reveal it. Any ideas Thanks Gale |

Of all the good and bad suggestions I've ever read your advice in reply to this good persons question was - to purloin a phrase - completely useless . Indeed, your reply undoubtedly deserves to win the 2003 wood spoon award for "The Most Lame Answer Ever in Reply to A Question Posted on PC World's User Forum" . Which makes me wonder what you actually do for a living . Heaven help us all if you happen, by design or accident, to work in IT on a support desk somewhere . And Alan, one last thing . In future do us all the favour by attempting to converse in a conversational manner with your fellow human beings rather than mimicking the carry on you probably engage with your blow up doll . No. Not at all. I disagree (but feel free to disagree with me.) Boiled down (and hooo boy, you're right, heap big boildown would not have hurt at all), my answer was, "Copy and paste the error message into Google." It's an error I know, and a help request I've seen many, many, MANY, *MANY*, LOTS AND LOTS of times in comp.databases.ms-access I've seen that request at least a hundred times in comp.databases.ms-access since 1997. Try it yourself. Try "Access97 Licence" in Google. You WILL find an answer. Ok, it's a weird answer. Delete the "hatten.ttf" font, then reinstall. Not exactly intuitive. As an answer in a situation like this, I suggest that, "Copy your error message, then paste and search in Google," is a GOOD answer. You may not see it as good, but please don't call it "useless" I repeat, as an answer to a computer problem, "Copy your error message, then paste and search in Google," is a GOOD answer.
