174843 2003-09-13 00:46:00 Hi Guys, Ihave an ADSL modem connecting me to the internet and I want to re-install my old 56k dial-up modem so I can use it for faxing.

How do I connect it and configure it so that it does not interfere with my ADSL internet connection?

Regards, Marcus

174844 2003-09-13 01:10:00 install modem in your machine, and install driver for the modem. then, in w2000/xp, setup fax as a printer.

connect modem cable the same way you connect the phone.

modem----->double adaptor---->jet filter/spliter--->wall socket

adsl--------------------------------------|(or)------------

that is way I use at home.

174845 2003-09-13 01:17:00 Just a thought, have you checked whether you will be charged at a high rate for using the dial-up modem?

With Paradise it is $2/hour to run dialup if your main account is ADSL.
Not sure whether there is a minimum charge though for dial up.

174846 2003-09-13 01:23:00 The dial up modem doesn't connect to the ISP. It rings a fax machine. wotz (335)

174849 2003-09-13 05:06:00 Hi Yang11, I think I understand your diagram. I translate it as below:

wall )double (...........(filter)...............to dial-up modem socket
socket)adaptor(................................... .to ADSL modem socket

Is this right? Is there a similar utility as "setup fax as printer" in Win98SE
which I am running?

Thanks, Marcus

174850 2003-09-13 05:43:00 Havent used fax since the dos days, but Win98SE doesnt have built in fax capability, unlike Win95 which did.

You will need 3rd party software like Winfax.
