174757 2003-09-12 05:04:00 Something strange has happened to my computer when I go on the internet the pages will not close, I click on the X but nothing happens, I try Alt+F4 nothing happens, what I have to do is CTRL+ALT+DEl and end task.
I have tried uninstalling Internet Explorer and re-installing it but still the same problem. The close button works fine in every other program it just will not work on the internet explorer for some reason.

Can someone tell me what has happened and how to fix it.

Cheers

174758 2003-09-12 05:22:00 It appears that you asked the same question yesterday but only received one response. This would be because no one knew the answer to your problem yesterday. It is a good idea to keep all your related questions in the one thread so that people know the history of your problem and will not ask the same questions already asked.
You have tried a repair of Internet Explorer which did not work. Do you remember when the problem began? I suggest that you scan your computer with Adaware and Spybot in case spyware is causing your problem. Post the results in this thread.

174759 2003-09-12 05:27:00 I dont know if you can uninstall IE from XP. if you did that, reinstall the lastest IE6 with SP1.

if you high speed net connection, and XP prompts you to update, just do that.

good luck

174760 2003-09-12 22:01:00 Ran Spybot and Adaware and removed what was in there rebooted and still had the same problem, so I booted into Safe mode and tried it there and the close button works fine in safe mode so I think it might be Windows itself that has something wrong. I am going to try the MSCONFIG utility and see if that pin points what's wrong.
If anyone else can think of something to try please get back to me.

Cheers

Have a read here (www.the-it-mercenary.com), they seem to have found a solution.
