174776 2003-09-12 04:58:00 Does anyone know if a Info Lithium camera battery have a "memory" problem like some other batteries.

We have a Sony Digital camera which takes a NPFS11 battery and though around 16 months old, seems to not hold a charge for any reasonable period of time.

The cost of replacements is rather high so thought we had better check the memory problem before chucking it.

Talk to one of the battery refill companies ... some in NZ are approved to fit replacement cells.

174778 2003-09-12 05:14:00 No, rechargeable Lithium cells do not have a "memory" problem, but they do have a fairly high self-discharge rate. That means that they go flat quite quickly between charges. The warmer the storage temperature, the faster the discharge so keeping the camera or battery in a cool place can prolong the useful charge life, but not by much.

In my experience they also die relatively quickly so 2-3 years of regular use is about it.

Your mileage may vary, as may others.

174779 2003-09-12 05:16:00 I would talk to Sony as my sister & her husband have a digital camera with one of those and they had the same problem.
Sony replaced the battery even though camera was out of warranty because apparently there is a problem with some of the batteries.

174780 2003-09-12 05:40:00 For some good information on Lithium Ion batteries have a look at this Panasonic (www.panasonic.com) site. (If I typed it wrongly -- ;-) -- do "panasonic lithium ion overview" to google. That's the first link ... the second one points to it, and a couple of other short articles --- bottom of page). 174781 2003-09-12 10:11:00 Thanks for the reply Graham L, Billy T and CYaBro, I will approach Sony first as I feel it should last a bit longer than 16 months. Curly (487)
174782 2003-09-12 11:05:00 we have a npf10 that is almost 4 yrs old. It drives us nuts wotz (335)
174783 2003-09-12 20:50:00 I remember reading somewhere about a sony recall cos of battery failure. Similar problem, shitty battery life.
I caan't find it anywhere, but could this then be returned?

174784 2003-09-12 21:26:00 My Sony digital camera has the same problem, all of a sudden the life dropped and dropped and now it seems to get no more than 15-30minutes of use. Using the flash nukes it. Anyone want to buy a second-hand digital camera?

174785 2003-09-13 03:38:00 Don't sell the camera - buy my battery !!

$149.95 should cover it, including postage, and it will work at least 6 times as long as yours :-), at a guess around a couple of days :-)

Heh heh heh
