174853 2003-09-13 08:04:00 If you don't need the fax running all the time you can just remove the adsl modem cable from the wall socket, and plug in the dialup cable, then plug the adsl one back in when finished Greg S (201)
174854 2003-09-13 08:09:00 So it is Susan. So all that's needed is the Windows 98 CD to install the Win95 Microsoft Fax.

Good tip :)

174855 2003-09-13 09:26:00 I use Win 98 and have the Windows fax program installed. It works well for both send and receive. Listed below is an excerpt from a NZPC World magazine article that I found most useful. It was the Dec/Jan 2000 magazine, pages 20 + 26 and was titled "The lost art of PC-based faxing".

Here is the excerpt:
........The fax applet that came with Win 95 works just fine with Windows 98. Furthermore, it's free for the taking on the Windows 98 CD-Rom, if you know where to look.

To install the applet, browse your Windows 98CD and go to tools\oldwin95\message\us.

Double-click on wms.fax.exe, which installs the Windows Messaging components that the fax program needs. Reboot your system and return to the same location, then double-click on awfax.exe, which loads the applet. You'll need to reboot again to make the applet available.

Sending a fax with the applet is a breeze, and you can initiate the process in several ways. To fax a text file, for instance, you can use the Print menu option from within your word processor, and choose Microsoft Fax as your printer. The fax applet will then ask for the recipients' names and fax numbers, allow you to use a cover page, and even let you schedule the transmission for off-peak hours. You can also configure the software to have your modem receive faxes either temporarily when you're expecting a document to come in or around the clock. Avoid the latter option if you'll also be using your modem line for voice calls..........

Cheers. :)

174857 2003-09-13 14:36:00 Your dial up modem has nothing to do with the ADSL modem & they will not interfere with each other providing you have line filters installed. Treat the dial up modem exactly as you would a telephone.
[ phone socket in adsl filter ] You can Fax & browse at the same time.
Instal the modem as usual.

There is an exellent Fax program on PC World CD Called "Mighty Fax" also another called "Super Voice" which doubles as a phone dialer.
