For Windows XP go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, View and ensure that "Show hidden folders and files" is enabled and "Hide extensions for known file types" is disabled. Next go to Start, Search and type in normal.dot. You may also have to click on the "More advanced options" to ensure that "Search hidden files and folders" is ticked. You could also tick "Search system folders" and "Search subfolders". |

I think from your history, you are using XP . normal . dot will be located at: C:\Documents and Settings\{your login name}\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates There will be a separate copy for each {login name} set of folders under Documents and Settings . Normal . dot holds any custom formatting, but few people use anything different to the default, and its very easy to recreate the changes anyway . If you "open" normal . dot with Word, set up all the options that you want as a default, save it, you can quicky personalise your new documents . |

So PLEASE help! What makes you think openOffice is not compatible? Been using it for a while now, open a .doc, save a .doc. Open a .ppt, save a .ppt. For a free programme it's bloody briallant. |
