175070 2003-09-14 00:17:00 Hi, I've got a Vodafone mobile that I've had for almost 2 years now, and am looking into upgrading.

I'm wondering, from you guys' personal opinions, about which company I should get a mobile from? Telecom seems good now and you can text overseas people, and they can text back (before that wasn't possible), and Vodafone seems as good. They've both got cool mobiles out - I'm looking into getting one with colour screen, preferrably a Nokia model.

The only thing I use my phone for is texting, so am not too concerned about talk-time plans etc. The other thing is that someone has told me to wait for another 2 months or so, and Telecom will have more mobiles to choose from.

thanks for ur help,
caffy

175071 2003-09-14 00:29:00 Vodafone!!!

there is a reason telecom is trying it hardest to claw back users ;-)

also you can text from the web to vodafone fairly easy.

175073 2003-09-14 01:10:00 both networks have different advantages... in terms of mobile phone tho I'd suggest the nokia 6610 it doesn't try to be too gimmicky ( although it does come with a radio ) it has a colour screen ( as wanted ) and voice quality is better than my 3210 :D minos#2 (318)
175074 2003-09-14 01:41:00 I'm with Telecom... the all you can text for $10 a month is a big bonus if you text heaps like me :-) Mizz_1Nique (1201)
175075 2003-09-14 01:53:00 Vodafone!!!
U can use a simcard, unlike a Telecom phone which needs to be programmed at the store.

If u on travel, ditch ur voda simcard and pick up a local simcard u are visiting like Oz or UK etc... and its cheaper than roaming ...

Pick up a new phone anywhere in NZ or overseas immediately put simcard in and it works. U c an pick simcards up in diaries ....

GSM is a larger network around the world too. Telecom u are stuck with them on travel cos u cannot convenient unprogram and reprogram onto another provider. So u are stuck with $$ roaming fees ...

175076 2003-09-14 01:58:00 Keep the vodafone if you travel overseas.

Buy Telecom because you can text unlimited $10 per month.

There will always be new phones so you'll be waiting forever

good luck

175077 2003-09-14 02:35:00 I think that if you take a look at the statistics, you'll find that far more people under 30 use Vodafone as a provider than Telecom.

You'll also find that Telecom will end it's $10 texting deal sometime, even if that is like four years in the future. Telecom wants to get a larger user base, I mean, which company wouldn't, but at the moment Vodafone holds top spot.

175079 2003-09-14 04:01:00 I use text only because I'm Deaf .

Some Telecom mobiles have Triband and with that you can change frequencies (whatever that means) .

Some of u guys are right in pointing out that only Vodafone mobiles use Sim cards . However, when i travel overseas I never get a new sim card, because I've checked my phone bill and its always been the same price for texting in another country (8 cents per text message) .

Vodafone mobiles don't work in the USA, but Telecom does .

I can see it's going to be hard to decide which company to go for! I'm getting someone to talk to the mobile department at Telecom and he will email me back about what they can offer me (eg what new phones are coming out very soon) .

Regarding the $10 text a month deal at Telecom, with my vodafone contract its 8 cents per message, which roughly comes out to about $30 a month . If i got a new (vodafone) mobile i could just put the sim card in the new mob . . . .

grrah, my minds going crazy over which company to pick!
