| 175057 | 2003-09-14 00:03:00 | Hi folks. I recently installed a scanner - Canon Canoscan N640P. When I first scanned photos they were saved in My Pictures and everything was fine. I must have altered a setting because now, the previewed scan shows the picture the same size as before, but when it now saves it to My Pictures the scanned photo is saved at about one quarter of the size of the earlier ones I did. Can anyone one please tell me what setting I have changed as I cant think what I have done. Thanks Smithie |

And when you say "one quarter the size" again, are you referring to the displayed size on the screen? Or are you referring to the file size? It sounds like you may have changed the resolution that the scanner uses. What is the scanner resolution set to? (e.g.300 x 300 dpi, 720 x 720 dpi) |

| 175059 | 2003-09-14 00:55:00 | Hi GF. Thanks for your reply. The "same size" I refer to is the photo in the "preview" screen. When I refer to "one quarter the size" this is the size approximately that is now showing in My Pictures. It has been reduced in size from the first scan/save I did of the same photo. Because I am just learning how to use the scanner I am just practising with the one photo. The preview setting shows Scan resolution 75 dpi, output resolution 75dpi and magnification 100%. Do you think these would be the correct settings? I really am floundering. Thanks, Smithie |

| 175060 | 2003-09-14 03:45:00 | If your original setting was 300 dpi and your setting now is 75, that's a factor of 4. So the picture would be 1/16 of the size (area) :D. But it wsould be a linear "¼". What are your screen settings? If the picture is 6"x4", at 75dpi you will get a 450x300 pixel image (which should display on the screen at close to "actual" size); at 300 dpi it will be 1800X1200 (which would need some "unmagnification" :D because it would overlap the screen.) In general you are better off using a highish resolution when scanning. Then you can reduce the quality for printing/screen display/email later. |
