2003-09-13 06:14:00 | This is a sort of weird problem regarding my laptop, the specs of which are HP pavilion ze4315, 2.2 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 30gig HDD,256 DDR Ram, 56kps v.90/v.2 modem. Not sure if it is related to my installing Kerio Firewall or whether it is something unrelated. This is the problem: Once connected to the internet (and there is generally no problem doing that) I sometimes have difficulty downloading web pages altogether and sometimes when they do download they are pitifully slow ie sub 1kb. This may be coincidental but has occured since putting Kerio in place. My desktop by comparion which is a P166 MMX with a 33.6 modem downloads web pages at anything between 1.5kb and 6kb. It also has Kerio installed. Can anyone shed light on this and help with solution . Thanks.

2003-09-13 06:56:00 | It does sound weird. I would suggest disabling Kerio on the lappie and see what happens when you try and download. | Susan B (19) | |
2003-09-13 07:11:00 | has it suddenly just done this? it sounds like poor phone lines or you have tweaked the internet connection a bit to much ;-) i would suggest trying string your modem to a slower speed.

2003-09-13 08:15:00 | Thank you Susan and Tweakie for your comments. Susan I will retry this suggestion again..just to make sure as I have tried in the last few days with the firewall disabled. Tweakie, I haven't done anything in the nature of tweaking the modem but will ry with a slower modem speed if you could assist by teling me how to go about this...I am running XP Home edition. Thanks

2003-09-14 05:41:00 | I would try uninstalling Kerio completely and see how your internet connection is without it . Not sure what version of Windows you have (if you have mentioned it I cannot see it right now) but if Win XP you could try System Restore to go back to before you installed Kerio . If things then improve try downloading a new version of Kerio to install as the other one may be corrupt . Another thing you could try is running Adaware and Spybot in case something dodgy has installed itself without you knowing . It is a bit of a tricky one, this one!

2003-09-14 08:38:00 | Thanks for your reply again Susan. I have tried all that you suggest to no avail. As you say, Ä tricky one this;) Yes I do have Windows XP Home. Have noted that download speeds today are about 1.6 to 2.5Kb/m. Maybe things are looking up.

2003-09-14 21:09:00 | have you tried the new modem driver from here? (h20004.www2.hp.com) | Trev O (452) | |
2003-09-14 21:40:00 | Have you done virus checks? The latest virus uses your bandwidth to annoy MS.com. (But just see if your modem is busy while your not using it.) Try Zonelabs.com free home firewall for alternative. | Scotty D (491) | |
