175482 2003-09-26 06:25:00 air conditioning? I remember "a year or two" ago ftping to the Simtel site, and reading the message which came up after logging in. (The Simtel archive was hosted at wsmr.mil --- White Sands Missile Range, in the New Mexico desert) Thety asked people to minimise their use that dayt, because the airconditioning was down, and they had the machine room doors open, using big axial flow fans to keep the computers (DEC-20s) going. They were probably like PDP-8s: if the thermal sensor in the power supply got over 180°F, they would shut down . This wimpy modern stuff probably goes neurotic at much less than that. :D Graham L (2)
