175462 2003-09-17 05:49:00 The exchanges would also be quiet these days: the old stuff was noisy. Clackety tick clackety bang brrp bang tick brrrp as the selectors and uniselectors and relays did their thing. Now I suppose the loudest noise would be the air conditoning. Graham L (2)
175463 2003-09-17 06:58:00 Hey Graham L , you worked in a "crash by crash" exchange too. :) Pheonix (280)
175464 2003-09-17 09:43:00 We’re everywhere. :D

I came across a little box of 2000 type wipers the other day.

Can’t for the life of me think what the hell I’d have kept those for. :(

175465 2003-09-17 11:26:00 And if a regular exchange is anything like a cell phone site now the air conditioning is certainly a major part of the whole system. mikebartnz (21)
175466 2003-09-17 21:04:00 The true answer of what a telephone exchange looks like - picture it... two people standing next to each other, both with a telephone in their hands. One says - here, have my telephone. The other says, thanks, have mine

:D

175467 2003-09-17 21:58:00 BM , you never know where the old PO techs turn up :)
The only momento from the old PO days, was the clock from Patamahoe Manual exchange when it went auto.
The wipers bring back memories of reinstalling a selector ,and forgetting to return the selector arm to home position....crunch...@#&%$*$#@ :D

175468 2003-09-17 22:03:00 Cash Converters buy and sell telephones - I guess that makes them a telephone exchange!! Har Har! :-) andy (473)
175469 2003-09-17 23:10:00 Gee Phoenix, wasn’t it Papamahoe where you had N.Z’s only Phantom over Phantom with a Rural Carrier and a earth working telegraph thrown in for good luck. One tree, touching one aerial, and the whole damn lot turned to custard. :(

Preferred the Carrier Room myself. :D

More like rip off artists. Have you ever tried to sell them something and gone back to see what they are wanting it for.

I had a camera that I managed to get them up to $120 for after they offered me $40 and would take no more. Two weeks later I went back to check it out and they wanted $340 for it.

It was a pretty early camera as well and certainly not worth $200 let alone the $340 they were asking for it.
