175329 2003-09-15 06:08:00 Mark, on previous occasions when I have scanned for updates on my XP computer if there are no more updates I get a message saying 0 updates. On the 98 computer I am not getting that far to be told. If two did not install properly then I want to know what the two are. There were also heaps of other non-critical updates shown previously. Now I cannot even access the site. Can I offer you an asprin? I know I need one ;)

175333 2003-09-15 08:21:00 Mark,

I understand what you are thinking, but I still should be able to access the site and see all the other updates (all the non-critical/secuirty updates) that I have not downloaded, instead of getting the Active X warning.

175334 2003-09-15 08:43:00 Oxie, for your ActiveX warnings check out these settings:

IE > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom level

- Download signed ActiveX controls = prompt
- Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins = prompt
- Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting = prompt

Leave the rest of the setting alone. When visiting windowsupdate you will receive a prompt for ActiveX, just click Yes. Try again and see whether this make a difference.

Thanks for the advice. I changed Run Active X controls and plugins from Enable to Prompt, and Script Active X controls marked safe for scripting from Enable to Prompt. I got the prompt window you mentioned when trying to access Windows Update page, but after clicking yes I still got the message "Your current security settings prohibit running Active X etc" and then the message we administrator. :( Any other ideas?

175336 2003-09-15 09:03:00 If you already had those settings on "enable" then it wouldn't make a difference (you can change them back to enable from prompt if you wish).

Have a look here (v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com) for other suggestions.

175337 2003-09-15 09:14:00 Thanks, Jen. I have now changed them back. Unfortunately when I click on your link I get a blank page (except for the Microsoft Windows Update logo at the top).
