| 175368 | 2003-09-15 07:03:00 | Hey just a quick question about NAV2003 The protected files thing it does, how can I tell if its safe to delete them? I assume it should be safe to purge them unless you have had a virus attack or suspect you mite have. |

| 175369 | 2003-09-15 07:39:00 | Do you mean the protected recycle bin files? I just go through every now and again and purge them all. But only do this if you haven't just had a big "tidy up" of your files. These protected files have nothing to do with recent or suspected virus infections. They are from [quote from manual ...] files that are deleted while you are using the command line, files created and deleted by Windows applications, older versions of files that you modify and overwrite [end quote]. If you meant the files in Quarantine, you can either delete them or attempt a repair of them (if you have received new virus definitions since the file was added to Quarantine). You can also restore or submit them (read the help file for additional information on this). |

| 175370 | 2003-09-15 09:29:00 | Thanks Jen C Yes I did mean the protected recycle bin files, sorry about that confusion. But just one little discrepancy, the protected files do have something to do with viruses, I assume the reason symantec created it was to try and stop viruses from deleting files from your computer that would stop it from working or cause annoyance to the user. |

Really ?:|. You may find this article (service1.symantec.com) helpful for the "official" explanation. |

If you replace the word "viruses" in the above statement with the word "users" it will be quite correct :D |
