175346 2003-09-15 05:27:00 Can anyone recommend me some good beginners php and mysql tutorials? I understand basic things like variables and arrays, but anything else loses me. So yeah, does anyone have some good php tutorials?
Thanks.

175351 2003-09-16 04:39:00 Wilky,

What exactly are you trying to learn, if you know HTML then you've got a pretty good chance of being able to pick it up, if you know Perl/CGI & C/C++ also a good advantage but not neccessary if it's only for the basics.

Everytime I get stuck I always look for someone who's done what I want, to me it's pretty hard to get the idea of what I want and hopefully one of my key phrases in google picks up what I mean.

php.net is the bible of php, no matter what, once you have familiarised yourself with tutorials, get PHP's manual and learn that, it explains all the functions, it may not show you how to actually implement them how you want them (this is when programming languages help), but this is when you go researching for them, good chance someone has done it before.

It doesn't take long to learn, provided you've got HTML experience, it took me a year to pick up, but I do have a background in Perl/CGI & C/C++ which helped even more but for the basics you should pick it up no sweat.

I hope you do continue to learn it, and not give up saying it's too hard, ask questions on here and someone should be able to help you with what you want.

175352 2003-09-16 05:18:00 Just dug up a good starting place from my favourites.

I'm sure you'll learn quite a bit from the links outlined in it.

175353 2003-09-16 05:36:00 DevShed (http://www.devshed.com) have a bunch of practical PHP (and MySQL) tutorials. You can download them in PDF format as well as view them online - good if you have dialup.

Also, download the php manual - it has a lot of good information in there (its at php.net).
