175920 2003-09-17 06:17:00 I would like to know if there are any programs out there that will adjust my monitors brightness when I am using an application. i.e. in real time. At the moment I am using Coloureal Bright which allows you to use keys(Ctrl/F10 to increase brightness and Ctrl F11 to decrease brightness) to adjust monitor brightness when you are playing a game for example. The problem with this software is that it's resource hungry and I would like to try another although I have searched high and low and can't find anything similar to Colureal Bright craigrob (1722)
175921 2003-09-17 06:31:00 Ahh - the eternal problem for gamers. I suspect that it would be more beneficial to you to investigate altering the contrast, rather than brightness. What game/s are you finding the problem with? Good monitors can often adjust both settings via the monitor's control panel, but many graphics cards can also do it on the fly, with input keys as you describe.

Keep in mind that many games just can't have their graphic detail improved via any sort of hardware or software rendering - ie the screen may be brighter, the contrast greater, but it won't enable you to see any more "depth". A good example is Armyops, which can't be "cheated" in this way.

Remember to look closely at the game's in-game vid settings, and adjust accordingly, or do a search on Google, for tips and hints eg "game-name video settings"

Pay attention to the ambient lighting in your room, as well as consider the affect (if any) of on-screen filters, reflections, screen cleanliness (careful how you wipe the monitor screen!) etc. Sometimes sacrificing graphics details for optimum clarity is worth looking into. The more details (aesthetics) you lose, often the more performance and useful clarity you can gain

175922 2003-09-17 07:00:00 Thanks for the reply. The monitor I have just bought is a compaq pro 21' (secondhand) and in BF1942 its too dark even with the brightness all the way up. Coloureal Bright works well for what I want but as I said is very resource hungry. My video card is GeForce 4 Ti4200 and it doesn't seem to have any gamma or brightness controls I can adjust on the fly.
The monitor is great except in games.

175923 2003-09-17 07:07:00 Ok, I still think there are a few aspects from my post worth investigating... but... best bet would be to go to a game specific forum for 1942, and post your Q there - I kinda doubt it's an issue with your o/s, hardware or software. Sorry I couldn't be more useful. Greg S (201)

175925 2003-09-17 07:47:00 WinFox that comes with some Leadtech or nVidia cards can set the adjustment for you and then you can set a hotkey for a particular game or app. Its strange you don't have any gamma/colour correction in your nVidia display properties. did you load everthing off the setup CD?

175926 2003-09-17 08:04:00 In addition to the good programs mentioned in that thread there is a very cool program called IPGamma. You just hold ctrl+alt and + or - to increase/decrease gamma. Then ctrl+alt+f12 to reset back to normal.

For BF1942, you increase the gamma before you get into the game because at present it won't work during the game. Other games you can do the ctrl+alt +/- suring gameplay and you will see the change instantly.

get it from www.iplaynz.co.nz
