175824 2003-09-16 13:01:00 When I try to open Microsoft Encarta I get 2 messages. The first is 'Encarta Interactive World Atlas has detected that your Internet Explorer security settings are set to"Custom". Please set the security setting to "Medium". Otherwise, some portions of Encarta Interactive World Atlas will not run correctly'.
When I click OK, this message appears. 'File Error: Interactive World Atlas is unable to continue running on your computer. Your network based installation is unavailable at this time.
IE is set to Medium (always has been) and I have always been able to open Encarta previously. Other discs (Home Publishing, etc still all open okay). Does the second message indicate the comptuer thinks (?) the files are set up for a network rather than a single user? Any ideas?

175825 2003-09-16 14:02:00 Looking at your original post on this, it strongly suggests Encarta was originally run from another drive.
It may have originally installed the files needed to run, and they are now pointing to a drive that is either unavailable or no longer exists. It therefore assumes its a network issue and informs you accordingly. In your case its not a network issue, but looks like one to the PC.

Try uninstalling Encarta, then re-installing it. Or run it from the same drive as it was installed from. Remember if you have still got a CD drive dsconnected it may change the drive letter assignment, which will confuse things even more.

Pays to keep your postings together by continuing the old thread, as the causes are likely common.

175826 2003-09-16 23:53:00 Thanks for your reply. I have always run Encarta from the disc, in the CD ROM drive. My drives are all connected and have the same drive letter as previously. I have tried other discs and the Encarta one is the only one giving an error message. I'll have another play tonight. Grimy (3041)
175827 2003-09-17 06:51:00 Grimy had this prob before try this:
click start run
type regedit click ok
navigate to key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion
Find another key labelled Internet Settings Right click and select delete
confirm yes
close registry editor
Dont worry about the values deleted they will be recreated next time Encarta is run

Also search F1 on username tedheath on second to last page I think you will see other things you can do.
I cant give you a link to the thread because F1 is doing one of its hiccups at the moment. It might pay try tommorrow when they fix it.
