175967 2003-09-17 06:54:00 I have been watching ZoneAlarm alerts for 2 minutes just now, and the majoy of connections blocked at destination ip:4662 or 135 (thats ms blast isnt it?)

and at least 3/4 of the source ips at NZ! and the ranges only vary about 50 or so numbers , ie 219.88.25.87 and then 219.88.25.104 etc...why 4662 but yeh half of them the source dns is .dialup.xtra.co.nz or jetstart at xtra..etc etc..im on dialup with ZoneAlarm 4 set on high

175968 2003-09-17 07:06:00 Do you use edonkey for file sharing?
As it uses port 4662 as the default port.

175969 2003-09-17 07:17:00 i use emule - the lite version of it...but even when i have no file sharing programmes open it still gets attempted connections to port 4662 MrBeef (342)
175970 2003-09-17 07:19:00 This quite good explanation was found on the web:

[i]I think these type of programs (edonkey) learn and hold a cache of ip addresses of peer nodes from other peer nodes. So if you have a dynamic ip address (e.g.dial up or Jetstart), someone who had your ip address before you could have been running edonkey.

Your ip address could be in the cache of 1000's of other edonkey peers, it might take days or weeks for your ip address to be forgotten by all the edonkeys out there, which is irrelevant, because you probably have disconnected and reconnected getting a new ip address by the time that happens, in which case we start the cycle all over again.

175971 2003-09-17 07:35:00 have a look at http://grc.com(Gibson Research Corporation) & see what they say about that port stu140103 (137)
175972 2003-09-17 07:50:00 Emule is absolutely hopeless. It doesn't d/c you properly and when you shutdown emule Norton Internet Security brings up 1000+ security warnings and you can't stop them from occuring.

This is especially bad for me, as I have to forward the emule ports onto my computer's internal IP address to get a 'High ID'. I have to do this because I've got a NAT Router. As soon as I d/c emule I get the unstoppable alerts. I actually have to change the port forwarding settings in the router to another port to stop the hits. Then I change the settings in emule as well. Major pain in the neck. Anyone know another way to fix?
