176273 2003-09-18 12:20:00 My TDK 48x cdrw has generated a problem. Initially, it was able to burn normally until the lead-in and lead-out stage and halts there for a couple of minutes. Then error message says write failure.

I then tried a couple of times later but it halted burning at 7%. I couldn't even cancel the process. I have to shut down the PC.

Is it gone or there is something I can do about it?

Cheers

176275 2003-09-18 13:45:00 No. I bought this from Singapore and have been using it for about a year without any problems. It's a beautiful cd writer; until ...

I've recently replaced my HDD and reinstall my OS, i.e. XP Pro. I've burnt about 50 CDs and it never failed me, not even 1 CD. Maybe I should check my connections tomorrow.

Thanks, anyway.

yes. I've been using this writer with the same media for more than a year now and only until the other day when I downloaded and flashed the latest firmware, and problems started to a develop. I've tried to re-flashed the earlier versions but without any luck.

Anyway, I've contacted TDK Singapore and they will replace a new one if confirmed faulty, though my warranty has expired more than a month ago! What a great after sales service which will probably never happen in New Zealand. I've sent out the unit this morning for a replacement.

Keep it up TDK Singapore.

Cheers

That should have ended any chance of a warranty claim I would have thought? Did you inform TDK that it only gave trouble after the re-flash?

Yes, I did; I told them exactly everything what I've done. They even asked me to download the older ver of firmware from their website to flash it and see whether it will help to resolve the problem.

176280 2003-09-29 04:19:00 TDK Singapore has sent back the replacement this morning. They have not only replaced a brand new unit but also upgraded the writer to 52x (my original was 48x).

Have installed and tested; everything is functioning perfectly as expected.

What a great after sales service! Good on you, TDK Singapore!

Cheers.
