| 176029 | 2003-09-17 14:01:00 | Hi When you click a download link in Internet Explorer, a window pops up asking you do you want to save or open file etc However there are times when I want to know exactly what the full URL is for the download. This is so it can be transferred to a download manager or sent to other people. Most links are OK since the link is in the HTML, but some sites use either a form, javascript or CGI script so that you can't see the actually link, even when you view the source on the page. The big problem is Microsoft's site, especially the live update when you elect to download the files. You can't see the actually URLs. So does anyone know a way of collecting this URL it must be somewhere because Internet Explorer needs it to download the file. IF you want to example, try here www.microsoft.com and see if you can get the Intellipoint driver download URL. Thanks Joan |

Microsoft have coded this form to prevent deep linking to it. As far as I know, there is nothing you can do about it. |

It was mentioned that other browsers, eg Mozilla and Firebird are able to show you the full url when downloading . Unfortunately other browsers do not work very well on MS sites so you will be unlikely to use that method for those downloads . If you use Flashget download manager you can drag a download's link to Flashget's dropzone but once again, that will not work for the MS updates . As far as I know you cannot use a download manager to get the MS updates, unfortunately . This was also discussed recently and I am fairly sure there was no solution . Cannot find the thread now but it was within the last month if you want to search for it yourself . |

| 176033 | 2003-09-18 01:01:00 | Thanks for your replies. I tried Mozilla but the page doesn't load properly so it doesn't get a chance to download. I have seen other people post deep links on this forum and some other Web sites display them, so there must be way. Does anyone have any other ideas I can try? Thanks Joan |

| 176034 | 2003-09-18 01:07:00 | you can use IRIS or other sniffer to see what is the url redirect by the Webpages . Actually, in IE6 you can use some plugins to change the way of ie downloading, such as show the file url, i have got one of these, but it is writting in chinese, but i think it works fine on any language windows . i will upload it when i back home if you want this plugin |

Sadly, I think you may have to find another download location if you're wanting to use a manager, or find the URL :-( |
