176099 2003-09-22 02:23:00 Dear John, and Murray,
Thanks again for help. The problem is escalating, it wouldn't start at all today, I tried all the tricks that had worked in the past, eventually I removed the sound card, started then no problem.??? The sound card is a new one, which I put in to replace the previous one, when its removal allowed the PC to start, before. However, I realise this may not be the root problem. With my daughter's assistance, next weekend, I will attempt to try the BIOS update, or the mothercard driver update, bit too technical for my old brain. Meanwhile, it seems to function OK without the sound card in, though that is most unsatisfactory in the long term. Carl

176101 2003-10-03 23:17:00 Dear John,
Sorry for long delay, after much querying for upgrade prices, we found best bargain was a new computer, which we now await. Carl

176102 2003-10-03 23:18:00 Dear Terry,
The system worked OK before, and I want the dual switching. We went into upgrade prices, and decided best bargain was a new computer. Carl

176103 2003-10-04 00:14:00 How's about the power supply " Does the BIOS give anidea of what the voltages are running at ? Doesn't fit with being the problem if it connected to the Mac, but you never know. If the 5 volt rail is on the ragged edge or the PSU overloaded it gives all sorts of odd features.

176104 2003-10-05 02:05:00 Thanks for the reply, I don't know if you see the other replies, as I can, all on the one page, I have got a new computer as cheaper than an up-grade, I will return to the old one, as a spare, when new one is up and running, (hopefully) Carl carl watson (2731)
176105 2003-10-05 04:37:00 Have a similar problem with my computer that happens occasionally, pull out the ram make sure all the connections are clean and put it back in. My motherboard ram slots are very fussy, think the board is a bit warped because of bad placing of mounting points and lack of them, anyhow give that ago. rsnic (3780)
176106 2003-10-06 01:41:00 many thanks for the suggestion, will try it when I can get my daughter's attention again, sheis busy setting up the replacement computer at the moment, this one will then be a spare back-up one. Carl carl watson (2731)
176107 2003-10-06 11:33:00 Yep Also check the CPU is inserted correctly as this has all the problems you described when the CPU is not inserted in the Mother-Board correctly. Just remove the CPU and re-insert the CPU and it should be fine neo2003 (4585)
176108 2003-10-06 23:45:00 Dear Neo,
