176475 2003-09-19 11:36:00 I have received a Word Document as an e-mail attachment, which I can open OK, and I can view, print review and even print in word 2000, but I can only open it in Word 2002. I cannot print preview or even print it out in Word2002. Can anyone help me as to why this is so?

We are running XP Professional on a new Computer.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

I understand this bit. The document behaves normally in Word 2000

Not clear here. Are you saying it only opens in Word 2002? But above you can also open it in Word 2000.

Or do you mean the only thing it will do in Word 2002 is open, and not print or print preview?

Assuming the latter, please explain exactly what happens when you try to print preview, or print in Word 2002.

Do you get an error message? If so what is it?

Have you tried "save as" in Word 2000, and saving as a file of type .rtf?
Then open in Word 2002 and try printing.

It could be an odd corruption in the file, that is only affecting Word 2002. Saving as an rtf file (change the file type, not just the extension) would eliminate that.

The original file may have been saved as a Word 6/97 or other multiple format word file type which can carry two copies in differing formats. Each version (2000 and 2002) may be opening a different document within the same file.

176477 2003-09-19 15:38:00 okay if i am reading this right you can open a file but not print previes or print right?

could be a couple of things. My first guess would be a corrupt installation [although it could be a corrupt file also i suppose but i havent encountered that yet myself].

1. I would try testing other files and see if you can use print preview/print with other files in which case you may just have a not so nice file and may want to try fixing it in various ways e.g. converting to word 97-2000 format and see if it can rebuild it

2. Try repairing the office installation it may be corrupt [after step 1]

3. Try removing/reinstalling the office installation and see if that helps

4. could be other things also i guess. Try print preview or printing from another application perhaps the printer driver is whacked.

5 allow for other options. maybe drop another message on here if the above fail and let ppl know what the outcome was to rewiew the solution
