176782	2003-09-21 08:13:00	Hi all I am setting up an private file sharing network in which four computers 3 X win XP ( 2 which are laptops ) 1 X win 95 need to share files for office documention privately through lan and are connected to the internet through a adsl modem/ 4 port router. I have set up the network cards on each computer with static ip addresses 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.6 and sub net 255.255.255.0 WITHOUT file and print sharing bond to tcp/ip. So the network dialog box has got Client for microsoft tcp/ip ( static ) file and print sharing ( not bound to tcp/ip ) Internet access is no problem, but I want to be able to share files between each computer which only has 1 network card in each machine. Do I use IPX / SPX/ NetBios Compatible transport Protocol for more secure file sharing without broadcasting to the greater world. And if so does anybody know how to set up the network addresses. 176783	2003-09-21 08:44:00	my normal file and print shareing setup is ipx/spx with ipx netbios support ticked and set frame type to 802.3. also address must be the SAME (unlike tcp/ip).	tweak'e (174)
176784	2003-09-21 08:48:00	If your ADSL router uses NAT addressing your LAN should be invisible to the outside world. It acts as a hardware firewall. Go to Steve Gibsons site (www.grc.com) and try the tests "probe my ports" and "shields up". On my LAN I get a total stealth report, it effectively does not exist.	godfather (25)
176785	2003-09-21 21:13:00	You should have no problems sharing files over your network, but not the outside world as GF says. You don't need IPX/SPX, that is a Novell thingy. Just enable sharing on each machines' drive that you want to share and that should do it. Equally, NETBIOS isn't really needed in XP. Crunn	Crunn (1068)
