| 177028 | 2003-09-22 07:55:00 | Hi all Can Microsoft Word 2000 files (saved normally) be read in Microsoft Word 97? I look forward to your replies. Thanks Lyn (Oxie) |

| 177032 | 2003-09-22 08:15:00 | It is not so simple, Godfather. I use Word 2000 on my XP computer and backup files to an older computer. On occasions I do need to use Word on the old computer (like the time the hard drive died on the new computer and I was without it for a week). Can I legally have Word 2000 on the old computer as well as they new? Obviously I can only ever use one program at one time. | Oxie (1318) | ||
| 177033 | 2003-09-22 08:39:00 | That is a common scenario. As to having Word on 2 PCs, it depends on the version that you purchase I believe. A full version, or an upgrade to a full version will allow 2 installs for the purposes you mention. More often one is a laptop. An academic version, "teachers and students" version or an OEM version (full version bought with a new PC) will *probably* not allow it, judging from my reading of the EULA. I have read these EULAs and always endeavour to stay within the licence requirements, due to the nature of my work. As for portability of files, by going Tools-Options-Save you can set the defaults to Word 97-2002 files. Then simply forget about it, all files will be interchangeable. Problem is, they are over twice the size. |
