177404 2003-09-23 21:42:00 Having just formatted my computer, I am trying to do updates. When I go to Windows Updates and scan for updates, it gets to 100% complete and then says it has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page. I'm using XP. Thanks. novice (4614)

177406 2003-09-23 22:43:00 You require SP1 , I take it you have it? Pheonix (280)
177407 2003-09-23 23:13:00 Thanks, I'll search again. Yes, I have installed SP1 off the latest NetGuide CD. novice (4614)
177408 2003-09-23 23:28:00 I have searched the posts here, and none seem to provide an answer to this particular problem. I have tried changing the http to https, with no luck. Thanks. novice (4614)
177409 2003-09-23 23:33:00 Does it display the list of updates that you need? If so you can always download and install them manually. Barnabas (4562)
177410 2003-09-23 23:44:00 No, it doesnt display any downloads at all. This is the exact message:

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows Update.

Send error number to Microsoft (0x800A138F)
Note This sends error information but does not create a support incident; you may or may not receive a response.

The 'Windows Update Home Page' and the other 2 below it are links. When I click the Home Page link it just opens another page the same as the one I'm already on, and it gives the same result.
At the advise of someone else I went into Internet Options etc and removed the object Udate Class, restarted and tried again. This made no difference, and I was not prompted to download anything.

177411 2003-09-24 00:05:00 Oh Joy! Its working. My time/date settings were wrong, it was set as 2002! Duh! Thanks everyone for your suggestions. novice (4614)
177412 2003-09-24 00:06:00 Try log in as Administrator and click Windows Update .

I also encounter Windows Update problem when I press Shift + right-clicked IE and 'run as' Administrator which I used to do previously but now it doesn't work . I then log off and log in again as Administrator and updated my Windows successfully just now . Give it a go .

Good luck
