177346 2003-09-23 06:55:00 I've got someone who wants to come here from the states, but my dad is offering to pay for half the tickets (whole but get half back when this person arrives in nz)...
the question is...

can the tickets be purchased in new zealand? then this person can pick up from the local travel office of Las Vegas (thats where this person lives)....

I'm asking because since sept 11...security and customs have got stricter and i just wanna know if this is possible...

177347 2003-09-23 07:54:00 Yes its quite possible.
Its quite normal.

Only the payment needs to be done here, the tickets can be printed in LA if need be.

I travel overseas, and the overseas client pays the ticket, I simply pick it up at the airline office.

Normal security requires that passengers have the required ID, and I can't see how it could possibly make a difference who paid for the ticket.

Either book and pay on line, or discuss it with a travel agent.

177348 2003-09-23 09:12:00 I book my air tickets online, confirmation of the purchase and booking is sent to the supplied email address, the name you booked under and the email address can be anyones. You/they simply print this out and take it to the departures counter with your/their ID, which is where the matching of the ID'ed name, face and booking is done. No need to pick a ticket up from anwhere so long as the airlines online booking system supports electronic tickets.

177350 2003-09-23 11:21:00 Ticketless travel (electronic tickets) are not yet used for international (USA) travel from NZ when I last looked. Only NZ-Australia?

So I think you will need real tickets which can be collected at an airline office. Unless things have changed...

177351 2003-09-23 22:40:00 Email your local Holiday Shoppe or United and they should be able to help you.

Having said that however, there may be cheaper deals that can be purchased only in the States, something NZ travel agents would not be able to find.

It may be worth the passenger shopping around in the USA, then emailing you the details so that you can compare their price with the price that Holiday Shoppe or United Travel have given you.

177352 2003-09-23 22:58:00 You can book a ticket in NZ for uplifting by someone else at another location, not a problem .

Before booking though, compare the cost of paying here vs the cost of paying there . In some cases it might be cheaper to pay there, some times cheaper to pay in NZ, it all depends on various taxes and other levy's that can be imposed in that country which may not be appicible in part or whole when booked else where .
