1347618 2013-07-01 09:36:00 Looking for a Socket 1155 MB (preferrably ASUS but other reputable brand will do) with RS232 COM port for CAD equipment.

Can someone recommend one, please.

1347619 2013-07-01 09:47:00 I dont know if there are any modern mobos around that have this onboard. Unless its got the header on the mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)

1347621 2013-07-01 10:13:00 stormdragon: the MB in your link doesn't state that it's a RS232 com port, I checked with ASUS manual and it says it's a 9-pin com 1. Not too sure it's the same. bk T (215)

1347623 2013-07-01 14:04:00 Yup 9 pin serial is the same as RS232 and a lot of boards still have the header pins on the board but don't include the actual 9-pin socket to plug anything into it.
You need to get a serial header cable as well, like this:

Haven't seen of those for a long time though.
The other option is a USB-Serial adapter cable.

Should work, a lot of motherboards still have the header, just check the specs.

Also there are these;

1347625 2013-07-01 20:01:00 Whats wrong with a RS232 to USB adapter I use them a lot just make sure to get one with the prolific chip gary67 (56)
1347626 2013-07-01 20:52:00 Another alternative is a PCI Serial card: www.pp.co.nz Terry Porritt (14)
