2013-06-30 02:03:00 | Its time to upgrade SWMBO's desktop, looking for a mobo, CPU and 4Gb Ram for under $350 as budget is very tight and still need to get Win 8 as well so all up budget with OS is under $450 if possible. Not second hand either. Used for Office work and emails mainly, no gaming, no CAD or anything like that. Please no laptops as that is not what she wants. Oh and hopefully USB3. Thanks

2013-06-30 02:43:00 | Probably have to go with AMD if you want something cheap. This (www.computerlounge.co.nz)or this (www.computerlounge.co.nz) if you dont want HDMI. Or for $10 extra this (www.computerlounge.co.nz) if you want HDMI So thats either 99.95 or $109.95 for the mobo, $109.95 for the CPU (www.computerlounge.co.nz) Depends what brand you want for the ram, on how much it'll costs. Looks like Win8 maybe around $148,at Pbtech

2013-06-30 06:00:00 | One thing though, how come TM sellers are listing WIn8 at $184 when you can get it retail for $159 they are dreaming | gary67 (56) | |
2013-06-30 06:05:00 | Depends where you go I think. PBtech is 148, Computer Lounge is 159. Ascent is round 159 too | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2013-06-30 06:10:00 | Yes that's true an upgrade is cheaper just not sure if its worth the hassle. I could install the new mobo etc leave the HDD in its XP at the moment and then boot an upgrade disc I suppose. Although I think a clean install might be possible too | gary67 (56) | |
2013-06-30 06:20:00 | Well the version of Win8, I brought according to the box says SKU-3UR-00006. Which, according to Google is an upgrade. But I didnt need any previous of Windows installed to install it. I did a clean install and it was fine. It didnt complain So, really I dont know what the diff is between OEM and upgrade

2013-06-30 07:58:00 | Me neither but there are ways around it if it is anyway. I'll make an new image of the XP before I start | gary67 (56) | |
2013-06-30 20:12:00 | Some cheap upgrade bundles around , at paradigm for EG on this page www.pp.co.nz A couple of the cheapest ones www.pp.co.nz www.pp.co.nz You'd have to look up the Motherboards on the asus website as they don't give any details but certainly cheap enough and plenty capable for your intended usage. I've had nothing but good service from Paradigm, they have a bigger range of the cheaper hardware than Computer lounge when building on a budget. I use both suppliers quite a lot.
