1323813 2013-01-20 01:49:00 Yes Maori's are such great explorers, that they can't even tell us where they came from !

Hawakiki ? Easter Island ? Taiwan ? Samoa ? Cook Islands ? its nto as if its thousands of years ago.

1323814 2013-01-20 02:15:00 It's to celebrate their wondereslessness.

As to who paid for it, it's the bottomless pocket, which Key has found.

1323815 2013-01-20 02:23:00 Solomon joked with the crowd that the pou did not mean Ngai Tahu was about to lodge a claim on Antarctica.

''I thought I better reassure the Prime Minister that.''
Sadly I could fully believe if Ngai Tahu did lodge a claim to Antarctica, on the grounds that most people get there through Christchurch, which is in the South Island, which Ngai Tahu seem to believe they own.

edit -
...Maori culture is enshrined in who we are as New Zealanders.....
Yea....total BS :(

1323816 2013-01-20 03:22:00 Who cares,we got heaps of money!!! It's all so Key can cross it of his bucket list! ruup (1827)
1323817 2013-01-20 06:32:00 Who cares,we got heaps of money!!! It's all so Key can cross it of his bucket list! More likely because he knows it his last chance to go as PM, since we all know he has sc#$#$d the country and is unlikely to get a third term due to the incompetence of him and his party gary67 (56)
1323818 2013-01-20 06:35:00 I thought the same thing, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Maori have anything to do with Antarctic exploration at all, so why is it there? Surely it would have been much more meaningful to stick it somewhere that is actually relevant to Maori? I have no problem with them representing their culture in their own special areas of significance but is Antarctica one of them?

As for Maori culture enshrined to NZ'ers? hell no, NZ is a massively multicultral bunch of people, we got chinese, koreans, samoans, tongans, americans, britts, yanks, swedes. You name it we got it really. IMO Viking culture is just as important as Maori which is just as important as any other. I don't like it how the Maori get centre stage and funding for everything. What makes them better than any other race that's come to NZ.

We are one people not NZ + The Maoris.

1323821 2013-01-20 07:43:00 Remind them of home ! I wonder if Scott took some treasure's and a dummy.

Or they could all go out and practice the haka, and entertain us when they get home from their junket.
