| 1323520 | 2013-01-19 06:04:00 | Sliced some button mushrooms up for tea tonight, I normally pull the stem off, cut that up then do the tops after. Came to one top and it has white gills. A bit odd looking gills too, sort of not all the way down gills. But no grey or brown at all. Threw the chopped lot out and started over with the rest. It was a regular pkt of Meadow mushrooms but rather suspicious. |

| 1323522 | 2013-01-19 08:06:00 | Perhaps the mushroom had a premonition? If you saw your mates getting their stalks lopped off and chopped up, you too might go a lighter shade of pale around the gills. ;) | R2x1 (4628) | ||

| 1323526 | 2013-01-21 03:09:00 | Meadow said: "Agaricus bisporus is the species of mushroom grown by Meadow Mushrooms, and is the most commonly cultivated mushroom in the world. Pale or non-existent gills is a phenomenon sometimes seen amongst Agaricus bisporus mushrooms. It can be caused by abiotic factors, such as localised dry conditions. It is not common, and when it does occur these mushrooms can usually be identified and down-graded (processing grade). But occasionally the odd one gets missed. Either way, this does not present a health concern." So there we go....still better safe than sorry. |
