| 1323421 | 2013-01-17 23:24:00 | Nice points there :D Lots of people about who think they know it all, but when it comes down to it, they know bugger all really, only little bits that they do all the time. See it all the time, get people calling up -- My son knows all about computers and he says it stuffed cant be fixed --- Been tempted to say why call me then ? ( but I dont) Go there and most of the time its basic stuff that simple trouble shooting could fix to find out whats wrong. My own son knows quite a bit, theres been more than once hes come up to his mum and said-- easy do this bla bla -- Hmmmmmmmmmm OK smart arse ;) He took his last NCEA and blew it away. Typical reply from him though, I asked how he did in his NCEA -- yeah passed it easy (with a so what bored look) I think if the students want to learn more it helps a great deal, instead of just going with the flow. Hes always trying something new, thankfully he knows how to fix a screwup, no DAD help  |

It's not just IT though. Husband quoted today for a job, customer asked why so much ($85 to replace loo), it's a simple 5 minute job. Husband refrained from suggesting he DIY and said he couldn't come today anyway. Customer then asked if he could make it next year...... I would have replied to that one too. |

| 1323428 | 2013-01-18 05:49:00 | Seems stupid, web design is mostly programming anyway. Start with the basics, just like they will encounter in the real world as they move up the corporate ladder: PC Rebuilds & Desktop support Networking basics Second level support Network administration Network design Show them a Tree Diagram with a natural progression between up to different roles, and get them excited about it. Its not hard to do... The lecturers and stuff we had at Unitec were pretty bad, and I rewrote parts of the curriculum for them while I was learning it, it was *so* bad! |

| 1323429 | 2013-01-18 06:24:00 | I took ICT in year 10. It was a typing class, and it was SO ****ing boring. I had the fastest typing rate of anyone in the class, but the teacher wanted me to be able to touch type, which was slower. Bleh. Plus we had to do SPELLING exercises. I kid you not. Now apparently the school's offering these courses and I would have killed to take them, hard or not,. I mean hell I would've found out that university's useless if they are indeed at such a level. Because I'm 3 years into a degree and I feel like I've learned nothing. |
