1323658 2013-01-20 20:43:00 The world's main religions - Christianity, Islam & Buddhism are all against same sex marriages. Why? They must have good reasons for what they are doing.

Because a 2,000 year old book told them it was bad. ;)

Religion has no good reason for doing anything, it's all just made up rubbish.

Lets not turn this into an anti-religion thread, okay? Show some consideration for other's beliefs, even if you don't share them.

That seems a little bit broad-brush to me. I can think of two denominations of Christian, for example, (Quakers, UCC) who support gay marriage off the top of my head. And Reform Judaism has broad support for it, from my understanding (which may be flawed). We're a long way from the original topic, though. And an appeal to authority isn't the strongest argument. Consider that same authority tends to speak out against adultery, and yet divorce is mostly accepted by churches - many don't by-and-large disallow remarried folks from attending service or remarrying within the church.

So anti religion is not ok, but anti gay is?

Absolutely not. I've been watching carefully, and even folks like prefect have been careful to phrase things as opinion, and mostly avoid us-and-them stereotyping and so forth.

Having said that, if there's a specific post you wish to report, please do.

1323664 2013-01-20 22:43:00 Surely politicians by definition have to appear politically correct? ;-)

It's more like 46% (or less) in the US don't support gay marriage, since there are some "don't knows/won't answer" and most polls have 53% as the support for gay marriage. In NZ it's 63% support/31% oppose according to the most recent poll I could find. That suggests it would pass at a referendum.
Ask Colin Craig :p
I guess if that many (63%) voted for legalising gay marriage in a binding referendum, it should become law. My only concern then would be pressure on any kids to 'become gay'. I know some members would say that you're either gay or not, but if you grow up with gay parents pushing homosexuality at you, it may affect you.

Well said.

Aw Nick, I have nothing but respect for you my friend but I disagree with your last post. Gay people don't push their homosexuality on ANYONE (unless they're hitting on someone I guess but telling them your straight/not interested generally fixes that quick). Everyone should be able to be given the chance to parent... But then you're looking at the Adoption Law which will prob get Chill involved in this thread :P

NOTE: for those that haven't I highly recommend seeing Chill's blog post regarding this subject. Looks TL : DR but worth it.

FWIW, I know four kids from same-sex parents who are at an age where they are able to speak to their sexual preferences, and all are decidedly heterosexual.

I grew up with parents who were very open-minded and had gay friends, etc. All it did for me was make me aware of difference. If that helps people who -are- different recognise that they are not bad people, and allow them self-accceptance and happiness in their lives, I'm all for it.

1323667 2013-01-20 23:08:00 Who really cares . At the end of the day most gay people are honest hardworking people . Several members here who are anti gay still haven't come up with a valid reason why they hate gay people .

Question for you prefect, being a employer would you sack one of your employees if you knew they were gay?
