1347740 2013-07-02 10:59:00 Try some of the replies here (www.sevenforums.com). What version of windows is it?

It looks like that message means it doesnt know what you're using or cant find the OS. Its screwed up somewhere

1347742 2013-07-02 11:06:00 Boot from the dvd / select system repair / or whatever to bring up a command prompt. Type in bootrec /scanos. Then bootrec /rebuildbcd. Reboot. Then see what happens. Is there more than 1 version of windows on the hdd? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1347743 2013-07-02 12:05:00 Ill try boot from repair dvd now, and its running just the one win 7 installation osbornezo (16903)
1347744 2013-07-02 12:13:00 So it is doing what it did last time, it doesnt say press any key to boot from cd/dvd it just says windows is loading files, then sits on starting windows. This takes about 15-20 mins then i can choose my language etc and go into the repair phase. Why does it take 20 mins to get to the select language and so on? Does that provide any clues as to what is wrong? osbornezo (16903)

1347746 2013-07-02 21:20:00 Something is faulty / dead then. If it says 0 OS. You may have to reinstall windows, if you can Speedy Gonzales (78)
1347747 2013-07-02 21:35:00 ....Clicking, win not loading/corrupt...

If you need ANY data off that HardDrive, do a data recovery NOW.
That Hard drive could die/get worse , so if you need email/docs off it , dont play around with it.

Dont muck about with a clicking HD, replace replace replace

1347748 2013-07-02 21:49:00 Try seeing if the repair will actually see the OS.

Get back into the command prompt.

Type the following ( in bold) Pressing enter after each command

Diskpart
List Disk

IF the drive is still being seen, you will see something like Disk 0, {its status} and size. If its showing, then type in

Select Disk 0 (Assuming your drive is 0 )

List Volume

On your list of volumes look at the status for the drive - what does it say ?

Exit to leave diskpart

Because the disk probably has bad sectors on it which can't be read reliably and (depending on where the bad sectors are) Windows may be struggling to load up. I've got my niece's laptop here which is behaving in much the same way. SMART reports the drive is healthy but further checking reveals bad sectors and complete failure can't be far off. CrystalDiskInfo has a "caution" report on the drive's health. When the laptop is 'hanging' or behaving strangely put your ear next to where the drive is and listen. If you hear a repetitive clicking or seeking sound that is the symptom of a dying hard drive.

I would do what 1101 (post #18) says ASAP.
