1347421 2013-07-05 21:39:00 Looks like you can get that by not keeping windows up to date. Looks like this is also called w32.changeup (www.symantec.com). Its an autorun worm and spreads through / infects USB / removable drives.

And it may install a well-known file-sharing application called Emule

Since it wont boot normally or into safe mode, you may have to download the Kaspersky (support.kaspersky.com)or AVG rescue (www.avg.com) ISO (and burn it to CD), or the files for a USB flash drive. Then boot from one of them

Whatever you do, if you're using a USB flash drive, DON'T plug it into anything else

Thanks Speedy.
A problem of not having internet at home - hard to keep updated.
Will go to library and load those files onto phone and bring home.
How do those files re instate deleted files?
And are they autorun from boot up?

Cheers

1347422 2013-07-05 21:40:00 Are they freeware.? nznomad (16880)

Both are free, They're bootable AV scanners. But if you get the ISO's, you need a blank cd and something to burn them to cd with. Once you've burned the ISO to cd (if you get the ISO), you reboot go into the bios, change the boot disk to cd, save settings then it'll boot the cd

They may not reinstate deleted files they scan the system for malware. You'll have to boot from the windows cd and you may have to do a repair after.

The phone will have to have a bit of space on it, both files will be around 415-420mb

If you were near Taupo, I could/would download them for you

Hi Speedy, I spent all day yesterday downloading fix-it programs at a friends place but no joy.
Took it to pc fixer this morn and he reckons that the processor has fried.
How could this happen or is it purely coincidence?

1347427 2013-07-08 00:24:00 Processor?? If you mean the PC, then how did you run these fix it programs? If the processor was dead you wouldnt be in windows. Fix it programs like what? Did you get Kaspersky or AVG?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1347428 2013-07-08 09:23:00 Burn the AVG rescue CD to an actual CD and use that. Forget about stuffing around with USB if you don't know what you're doing. Agent_24 (57)
