1323793 2013-01-20 06:45:00 You would probably get the best deal if you try to repair it yourself. If you can't find anything else why not post photos here? I'm sure you'd get some interesting suggestions...

Sounds like a plan :)

I'll take pics tomorrow and post them, see what our electronics experts think.

1323794 2013-01-20 06:49:00 Are you still at School (well when they go back) if so look up the Brightsparks forums they are school age electronics forums. My step son used to be a mod on there until he left school last year gary67 (56)

It really ain't the same fat slicks still ride heavy compared to ultra light skinny's, and they don't handle as well rolling around in the corners, can't accelerate due to all that weight and look just plain daft on the road

A little off-topic, but I'll continue the theme...

I bought Schwalbe Big Apple (www.schwalbetires.com) tyres for my mountain bike from my favourite UK bike site a while back. They're 26 x 2.35 - and when they're pumped up to 50 - 60 PSI they are AMAZINGLY fast. And when they're between 45 and 55 PSI, they handle the dirt (dry) or a loose surface really well. The idea was to build up stamina and strength for the road bike by riding a heavier bike more regularly.

The beauty of these tyres is that I don't need levers to change them, so when I need some serious off-road grip, I can sort that out in less than 15 minutes with no tools except a pump.

Got some for my son's bike too so he's safer on the road riding to work (but still looks cool - nothing worse than seeing skinny tyres on a mountain bike)...

1323798 2013-01-21 05:52:00 Does anyone know of a shop in Christchurch that would repair a bike light? Dropped it onto concrete, now it only goes when pointed straight downward, or will flash on for a second if shaken. Don't really want to buy a new one as it is quite a nice (and expensive) front light.

Cheers

Sounds fixable. How expensive is 'expensive'?

I have a friend in Spreydon who might do it (if it is not irrepairably damaged). He is old-school like me, and will fix anything electrical, electronic or mechanical so long as some unique part is not required. It is not worth troubling him if it is relatively inexpensive to replace though. Alternatively, I could look at it, but the cost for return shipping to AK might be prohibitive. PM me if you'd prefer to take it off-board.

Cheers

Was around $60, so while it wouldn't kill me to replace it, it was a damn nice light so I'd like to repair it if I could. If I did replace it, I'd be buying the exact same light again, so really as long as it is cheaper to repair than replace I'd repair it.

Finally got around to taking pics, here they are
