1323071 2013-01-16 10:32:00 Something not right with that pic Wal. An aircraft in that position should show some signs of pilot imput. ie in that situation the pilot's natural instinct would be to apply full left aileron. No aileron is visible. Left should be full up and the right full down visible under the wing. The elevator and rudder are in the neutral position. The position on the tarmac doesnt look right. Telephoto could make the aircraft look closer to the boundary fence but it should still be on a visible runway.
Do you have any more info on the pic?
I will throw it to a couple of my Airline pilot mates for comment too.
Still an interesting photo though.

1323072 2013-01-17 06:03:00 On the face of it, you may well be right, tut. I downloaded the image from airliners.net, however it is no longer on the site. In its place is an image of what seems to be the same aircraft in an identical spot, but having touched down - with wings level - and surrounded by a cloud of smoke from burning rubber.

I've sent an email to the photographer asking if he would comment on the questions you raised. Should I get a reply, I'll post it here and pm you as well. In the meantime, I'm using that image as my desktop ...

:)Good one WalOne. I havent heard back from my airline mates yet but any comments I will pass on.

I have an interesting video of the testing of the 777 in what looks like a 60kts crosswind. The tecnique is what I used to get critisised for teaching here in NZ but it works. Unfortunately a dont know how to post vids but if you would like to see it I might be able to email it to you.

1323074 2013-01-17 06:41:00 Don't know whether anyone noticed on the news last week when a Qantas & Jetstar aircraft aborted their landings ... then showed two Air NZ flights coming in sideways and landing perfectly.

Looked at my wife and said - "Well that's either a clever bit of editing ... or those Ozzie's had better start growing a pair ... pussies" ... :D

1323075 2013-01-17 07:17:00 The Aussies knocked the lumps off the air and also, once the Aussies were gone the wind had no reason to be so cross. ;) R2x1 (4628)
