| 178016 | 2003-09-26 03:22:00 | Hi all. A friend is running XP home and when he saves a picture to "My Pictures" it automatically appears on the desktop (wallpaper). How can he stop this? I know there is a setting somewhere but cant find it. Thanks. Smithie |

True they get added to the wallpaper list but on his computer,as soon as they are added to the list, that then automatically becomes his new wallpaper. Do you think renaming the folder to say "pictures" would stop that. Cheers Smithie |

| 178019 | 2003-09-26 12:12:00 | I don't think I would rename the My Pictures folder as it is a system folder. What I would do is create another folder called Pictures and save all the downloaded pics in that. I would save the My Pictures folder for just desktop pics and when a pic is needed for the desktop, move the required pic in there. It should not really be doing what it is doing though, but I have no idea how to fix it. |

I must admit I cringe when I see people putting all their work and important data under the "my documents" tree. Usually there is no need for the limited amount of privacy it offers as its a stand alone PC, with one user. Having seen more files dissapear than I care to think about (fortunately not mine) due to corrupted log-in settings, I always advise making a separate directory under C: and not in the "Documents and Settings" branch. There are a few programs that cannot easily be permanently pointed to the new directory by default, but it makes backups a breeze, pointing to just a single folder. |
