177844 2003-09-25 06:16:00 I am looking to purchase a flatbed scanner that will also copy 35mm negatives and slides I know this has been covered many times before but new products seem to come on to the market every month Have seen some on a web site that only copy negatives
Thanks for any help given

177845 2003-09-25 09:48:00 I have had the same problem for some time now and went ahead a couple of weeks ago and purchased an HP3570c from Harvey Normans. it is not the fastest scanner in the world but so far have had no problems with it and the end product is quite good. it will scan 35mm transparencies, which is why I bought it, plus negs and photos. it will also scan documents into a word processing programme. Cost me $350 and you can pay alot more than that if you want to.

177847 2003-09-26 06:10:00 The scanners which copy only films will do a much better job than the flatbed ones which "also" do films. They usually cost a lot more. They are really professional tools.

Flatbeds either use a reflector to get light through the film, or (better and more expensive) have a second light unit which replaces the cover. The standard will be acceptable for home use.

You should be able to get a demonstration ... take a strip of film with you, and see what it looks like on their screen. :D

177848 2003-09-26 09:22:00 Further to my earlier post I have looked at the HP site and it appears as if the HP3570 has been replaced by the 3670. Mine has a light in the lid and a frame for negs and slides, if it is a discontinued model then you may be able to pick one up a bit cheaper.
