Coming from someone who doesn't believe Microsoft have a monopoly... I also hate to say this, but Xtra haven't made a press release yet on what caused the problem. They also have no control over whether their customers can get priority over 'the lines' as at the end of the day Telecom and Xtra are seperate entities - are people clicking to this fact. AFAIK they used to be called Telecom Internet Services but then changed to Xtra. And this is going to bite me in the ass as I know it will, but by 11:30 this morning all dialup customers nationwide were out of the question and about 30mins before that the 03 region was included in the no-go access list. > So, you want to know why we don't bash Compass Communications - well who > cares if their DNS servers went down, you can specify custom DNS servers, such > as Orcon's, to be used instead. Simple solution to the problem. Not necessarily. Plenty of dialup users use their ISP's servers and would need to manually specify other DNS Servers. > Free virus scanning on your emails? Like that's really hard... and spam filtering? > Orcon already does that, and so do many other ISPs. Don't think so. IHUG charge for the service and don't do spam services as far as I know, anyway I'm too tired at this point in time to find more ISP's that don't give the services Chucky |

I wasn't knocking Telecom! :O Only that dude who was smirking about the network being down. :p :D And that was only a joke and a prelude to my comment about Xtra's "How To" pages, which I was actually praising. :-) You may have missed it but Kame was having a go at Paradise today, so it isn't just Xtra who get bashed all the time. ;-) |

| 177951 | 2003-09-26 05:36:00 | Looks like I was wrong about the press statement not been released.. NZHerald (www.nzherald.co.nz) - seems as if it was an ethernet router.. > And that was only a joke and a prelude to my comment about Xtra's "How To" > pages, which I was actually praising. Probably more me been without internet access for just under 5hrs... needed a fix - I actually got the washing done... (think my parents sabotaged Xtra's network to get me to do it now :-p) CyberChuck |

Just as Honda Cars won't be the same as > Honda Motorcycles. I don't despute that they are a separate company, just pointing out that they are owned by Telecom and are subject to favoritism by Telecom |

| 177953 | 2003-09-26 10:34:00 | There is nothing wrong with Xtra, apart from all the spam i get - but thts soon to be fixed. I get excellent ping when i play games online with my lucent winmodem AND i live in the country. I also download at reasonably high speeds for 56k. So im not complaining - only REAL problems i have had is when Telecoms phone lines go dead for some reason.. |
