i recently took my computer to a friends house, and as my printer was not available, i used his. It is a lexmark multifunction scanner printer copier thing, that requires a special CD with all the right stuff on it as usual. after installing it, i found that my computer didnt want to shutdown, so i un-installed it, thinking that it was all good. the next day i was looking through the processes in task manager, and i noticed two new background apps running i hadnt seen before. one was LEXPPS.EXE and the other LEXBCES.EXE. i figured they were something to do with the lexmark printer i had uninstalled, and scince i didnt want them anymore, i deleted the EXE's from windows\system32 folder, and the related LEX****.DLL files. bad move. the next day i found that all my printers had been uninstalled, including the ones i wanted. i thought ha! this must be those apps i deleted. i brought them back from the recycle bin, and lo and behold - my printers were back again. so far so good, but i found that my spoolsv.exe (print spooler) was now "dependant" on the lexmark apps to work. (which wasnt the case before i installed the lexmark apps). nowhere could i find anywhere to get rid of them without printer problems. i tried reinstalling the printer, but while the lexmark apps were deleted, it said - could not install printer - "the RPC server is unavailable" - im pretty sure this has nothing to do with the blaster worm, as i have installed the patch and scanned my system for it (and not found it). anyway the background apps are pointless, annoying, and wasting my memory. i dont need them. i didnt need them before. i want to get rid of them, but i cant seem to. can someone please help?!! |
