178402 2003-09-27 10:32:00 All my images are JPEG, but I wish to convert some to MPEG so I can copy to a cd to view on our DVD. Is there a free program out there I can use.
I have CD Creator 5 and Nero - running Win98 - 1600 pent4.

You are :p

You can download programs that create video slideshows (avi, mpg, even VCD) from JPGs etc. Probably check out Download.com, or www.dvd-digest.com Digest[/url] (I think that's what it is...)

178408 2003-09-27 11:43:00 Use Nero

Use the wizard and step through selecting "Other" format (not data or audio)
Then select VCD

Then drag and drop your .jpg files, Nero takes care of everything.

When the files are displated in Nero in the panel to the left, if you right-click on a file and select properties, you can select how long each will display for.

Default is infinite, and you use the "next" button on the DVD remote to change.

And a lot of DVD stand-alone players prefer CD-RW, some will not recognise CD-R media.

I'm not sure of its actual name, but this will do a slide show for you in mpeg format (I'm guessing) without too much effort. Failing that try Microsofts free movie maker, I've made all sorts of random junk with my Digital Camera and that crafty piece of software.

178410 2003-09-27 22:59:00 I have just created a mpeg movie using jpg files in movie maker 2 using xp pro, not sure if movie maker 2 is available on xp home. Once the movie is made and saved, just burn to cd.

hint: movie maker when creating and saving will default to the media player default (.mov I think) simply over type this file extension with mpeg and it will create it, at least mine did.

good luck
