178311	2003-09-27 04:03:00	Can anyone clarify whether the following is a genuine message from Microsoft Internet Explorer, which flashed on my screen "virus warning W32 RPC virus detected click on ok to scan and clean" This takes me to a site that I can download and scan together with request for credit card details. etc I have run my pc cillin virus scan thru everything and came out clear, said there was no virus detected. Windows updated already. So I'm confused about this so called virus detected. I've had the msg pop up a few times now. System is win 2000. I'm going to scan with adware and spyware now. 178313	2003-09-27 04:13:00	Its just an advert, its not a message . You need to be able to distinguish between these pop-up ads and those generated by your own antivirus programs . They get quite cunning, but basically if it takes you to a site and wants you to download something, its time for a reality check .	godfather (25)

178315	2003-09-27 04:36:00	They certainly are getting cunning - I wonder how many people have been frightened into believing they have a virus, and ended up buying software that is not required. You may wish to look at installing some pop-up blocking software, so that you are not bothered by these useless messages again. Some firewalls have pop-up and ad-blockers included eg, Agnitum Outpost (free version). Otherwise if you use a different browser instead of IE such as Opera, Mozilla, Mozilla Firebird (to name a few), you can also control pop-ups. Jen	Jen C (20)
