178338 2003-09-27 03:22:00 I am looking to network my desktop and laptop via wireless connections, but cannot find the best way for the following reasons?
1) Currently the computers are networked with a crossover cable.
2) I have a USB hub that runs 3 printers as well as a web cam
3) I will be looking to add more computers later
4) will eventually have 4 -5 computers connected to the internet.
5) ADSL connection will be added at the same time.

I have tried to find out the best way, but have had conflicting information. Is it possible to purchase a wireless ADSL Router and Access Point with a built in Print Server or do I have to purchase all items separately.
I found an article in Sept 2002 PC World that quoted a " Accton Cheetah IG2004W Wireless Gateway, but am unable to find this anywhere now.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

178339 2003-09-27 04:28:00 DSE used to have a Wireless Access Point/ ADSL Router and Print Server, but not stocked now.

All-in-one is convenient, but its not essential.
My system has grown with my needs. I had the hub before ADSL came along, so the router had no need for a built in hub. Also they only seem to have 4 ports which is not enough for my needs.

I run a mixture of wireless/cabled network here.
4 PCs. (+ guest access)
A Wireless Access Point (Belkin, Ethernet connected)
Print server (DSE MultiPS) Ethernet Connected
ADSL Router (Alcatel Speedtouch Pro, Ethernet connected)
LAptop docking station (Ethernet Connected)
10 Port Ethernet Hub

178340 2003-09-27 12:16:00 Anthony, I have just taken up the Wireless Networking challenge, and am loving it, so first of all - go for it, it rocks.

With regard to your set up, I have the Dynalink RTA300W ADSL Router, which has 4 Ethernet ports, one USB port, and obviously acts as a Wireless Gateway as 192.168.*.1 on your network. So from that I have our two laptops running Wireless with Dynalink PCMCIA cards, and our desktop through a PCI slot wireless network connection. All works well, and the printer connects as an address in the network, i.e. is networked through an Ethernet connection.

On top of this, given I only have 3 ports left to use for when mates come round to network in, the Dynalink allows me to expand the network, with a crossover cable to my 10 port hub, thus allowing another 9 ports if required.

Have a look at it anyway, and have a chat to your local trustworthy computer techo (or some of the people on here) as most of the modern hardware can be tailored to what you need.

Good luck!

Craig. :D
