178295 2003-09-27 03:16:00 After 3 yrs I have finaly got my internet/ phone connection fixed
After replacing all the phone wiring and boxes in the house twice.
It was a high resistance joint in a junction box 2 kms away on my pair of wires half way to the exchange. Had about 20 line tests but every time I called the line it was not staticy until yesterday.
I always thought it was my fault something in the wiring here.
I followed the stupid guide xtra kept emailing me.
Always thought it was my fault
Woohoo clear phones lines, downloadpeed like a scalded cat no more disconnecting.
Happy Happy Joy Joy

[b][pre]Subject line is another attempt to isolate
the wildcard space problem. :|

178297 2003-09-27 03:34:00 Hmmmmm.....The space appeared at exactly 30 characters again, I thought for a minute it might be related to character width as well. This header is another variation, I inserted 10 spaces between the first & second sets of numerals but only one gets recognised. ?:|

178298 2003-09-27 04:31:00 Get the CPM card for your Apple II, Billy ... that will give you 80 characters, and a Z80. :D Graham L (2)
178299 2003-09-27 06:05:00 Jeez Graham, I'm not an Apple fan at all, except when associated with roast pork. :p

Do you think I should retire my Commodore 64 though? I don't think it is the cause of the problem but I can't seem to get Office 2000 to load before the tape cassette gets full so maybe I need some more memory and processing grunt.

Thought I might buy a secondhand AT, I hear they have those new fangled hard drives that can store heaps of data. The one Ive got my eye on has a 100MB HDD and a floppy too! What do you reckon the Commodore is worth as a trade in?

Cheers

make sure it's not one of those new fangled 3 . 5" floppy drives . . I heard they haven't been fully certified yet . . . . Stick to the 5 1/4" .

178302 2003-09-27 08:14:00 Sorry Ted, but I did offer some saintly advice before succumbing to the temptation to try once more to find out why long entries in the PF1 subject line automatically enter a space after 30+ characters and/or spaces.

Cheers

Retire it to your private museum, yes, but don't get rid of it, Billy . I read not long ago that those computer fossils are becoming quite a collectors' item and big $$ have been changing hands for them . :O

Unless it was something else they were talking about . . . . . . . ?:|

178304 2003-09-27 11:51:00 Hi Ted,

Had a similar problem earlier this year . The fault was finally located in the line under the neighbour's drive across the road .

The trouble was we'd get a little light rain, 3 days later the dampness would percolate down to the cables, the line would buzz and cause problems and I'd ring Faults . By the time they came out 24 hours later the line had dried out and the problem was gone . Till next time .

Isn't it nice to get it fixed?

Oh, and bring back the XT . I knew the purpose of every file on it . 100Mb? Greedy . Mine was 10!
