178094 2003-09-26 05:30:00 Hi all,

I've got an old PC an IBM that I am trying to install windows onto. It has been completely wiped, but when I put a CD in the tray it dosen't seem to know its there, it just says "Invalid system disk" (refering to a:). How am I going to install windows when I cant use the CD-ROM! Or more to to point, how do I get the CD-ROM working?

Cheers,
Ben

178095 2003-09-26 05:50:00 Windows 95 CDs aren't bootable. :D Most older PCs can't boot from CDs. :D

What you need is a DOS boot disk (with a driver for the CDRom, and MSCDEX.exe), or a W98 boot floppy, which can handle a fair number of CD Roms. If it's much older (say with a Panasonic 563 with the Soundblaster interface, or one of the other proprietary interfaces) you might have other problems.

There's a site which has lots of bootdisks ... it's probably called www.bootdisks.com/, but I could be wrong. Try "bootdisks download" to google.
