178916 2003-09-29 07:48:00 I have win98 and RH7.3 dual boot. Wan to uninstall RH since I've forgotten my user name and password and am not confident in using single user mode. Please someone tell me how to get rid of RH. Thanks. amijinx (4450)
178917 2003-09-29 07:58:00 Several ways:
1 - use a partition manager to wipe the RH partition from the system and then give the space to Win98. Partition Magic will do this.
2 - use FDisk (my personal favorite - just be careful as it does kill your disk and you will have to reinstall Win98)

Then, to kill the boot loader (make sure you have a Win98 boot disk - Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Startup Disk), reboot your machine into MSDos mode (Hold F8 before the Windows Splash Screen appears) and then put your boot disk in and type:
"A:\"
"Fdisk /mbr"
without the quote marks.
This will kill the boot loader from your system but not touch your HDD or partition table. Then it's a matter of restoring the Windows Boot loader

178918 2003-09-29 09:34:00 Or if you want to keep RH7.3, push CTRLX at the boot manager (assuming you are using LILO). Wait until the system boots into single user mode. To change the root password, just type passwd and follow the on screen prompts. JohnD (509)
178919 2003-09-29 10:32:00 I have PMagic 6 from PC Authority Mag but bummer, the registration for the product key has expired. Anyone have any idea where I can get the serial key? amijinx (4450)
178920 2003-09-29 11:28:00 I am using GRUB. Plus how to delete partition using fdisk? I assume this is linux fdisk? amijinx (4450)
178921 2003-09-29 15:07:00 Nope, that's the Doze FDisk.

Boot into it and tell it you want to "remove Non-DOS partition".

Also, if you have a Linux boot disk for your system, then put it in and when you get the:
Boot:
prompt, type:
linux single

and you'll get Linux in Single-User mode :-)

Reboot your machine into Windows but before it shows the Windows Splash Screen (starting Windows 98) press F8 and then choose Command Prompt from the menu that is listed.
Then when MS-DOS loads type "A:\" (without quote marks) to access the Windows Boot Disk which is in your floppy drive and type "Fdisk" (without quote marks) which will start up FDisk. Select option 3 which should be "delete partitions on disk" or something along the lines of and then select Non-Dos partitions (number 4 from memory). It will ask you to select what partitions you wish to remove so you choose the number of your partition from the table it shows and then tell it to delete.
You will probably have to repeat this several times to remove the partitions such as "/", "/boot", etc (depending on how many you defined when installing Linux.
Then, quit out of Fdisk but don't reboot yet. Type "Fdisk /mb" (without quote marks) to erase GRUB from your system.
Just be aware that you will need to change your drive selection in Fdisk if you have more than one HDD in your machine and didn't install Linux on the primary master
Keep your boot disk in your machine as you will need it to boot your computer into Windows and then reboot.
