178894 2003-09-29 06:33:00 I am trying to get a Linux driver installed for my modem which is a
PCTel HSP micromodem 56. I was directed to :
www.medres.ch/~jstifter/pctel/pctel-0.9.7.html
for the latest version of a driver for this modem. I unpacked the file and entered:
./configure –auto
in accordance with the instructions. I got error messages as shown in the following log :
./configure -auto
checking for running kernel version...2.4.19
checking for ptserial...ptserial-2.4.7.c
checking for gcc...3.2
searching for kernel includes...found at /usr/src/linux/include
checking for modversions.h.../usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h
checking for kernel_version...In file included from t.c:2: /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h:1:28: linux/rhconfig.h: No such file or directory
./configure: line 1: ./t: No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `./t': No such file or directory
** error could not determine a proper UTS_RELEASE

I sent all this 3 weeks ago to the creator of this package - Jan Stifter at:
j.stifter@medres.ch
but haven’t had any reply so far. Would anyone else have any idea on how to get rid of the errors ? I am using Mandrake 9.0

178895 2003-09-29 08:20:00 Do you have the kernel-source package installed?

It is required to compile any drivers. It will be on CD3 IIRC.

178896 2003-09-29 09:42:00 Yes - I found out that was necessary before & have installed it. unsavvy (4648)
178897 2003-09-29 12:21:00 I am working on installing the same driver for my winmodem but I'm on redhat 9.0 so you're not alone. I'll tell ya if I make any breakthroughs. smashedlittlebugger (4397)
178898 2003-09-29 15:06:00 There are usually rpm's available for RH and MDK for most WinModems now! Chilling_Silently (228)
