Sorry.. Long night... NTSC.

And DVD Playback is great. Also, if you install Linux, you can use VLC and stream them from ya XBox across the LAN :D Ive done that from my RH 9 (now slack 9) PC to the family's XP PC in another room.. was cool!

178721 2003-09-29 11:52:00 divx?,movies off the harddrive?

Never could see the point in that, the quality is too poor for my standards,If i want to watch a movie, then a dvd rental gives me the best quality for the best value, and if i want to own a movie,id buy it,and watch it in the best quality i can.

178724 2003-09-29 14:44:00 Up to 8 person multiplayer on PC :D :D :D

Nice,Not only the high res, fast framerate and fine detail that comes with being played on a pc,but multiplayer as well.

Kinda feel sorry for you xbox guys,Maybe you can stream some low-bitrate 3rd-rate movies to your tv in compensation.....

Just yankin ya chain of course,Im sure the the game will look great at 640x480...fine,just fine...

178725 2003-09-29 15:04:00 Actually, IIRC, PAL TV runs at slightly higher than 640x480! ;-)

And I agree, I wouldnt watch a Movie from a DivX file.. but it looks real cool when ya mates come over and you've got your X-Box streaming Music Vidz across the LAN from your own PC.. Especially seeing as my bedroom is part of a sort of sleepout, and is almost 30m away from the TV!!

Besides, when was the last time you were able to play Stree Fighter 2 on your PS2? ;-)

Im off to organise a Halo LAN :p

When I watch DVDs (or DivX movies) on my PC the aspect ratio is as it should be, meaning that one gets the black sections at the top and bottom of the screen, so even on a 19" monitor the actual viewing "area" is quite small, but then again I'm not sitting on a couch on the other side of the room, so it's all relative.

Until I can get me a widescreen TV (donations most welcome!) I prefer my DVD playback on the monitor as opposed to the PlayStation 2 on the TV (plus my TV is stereo whereas I have 5.1 on my PC)

178727 2003-09-29 22:42:00 The answer is simple,

You obviously have a computer, so use that to do all the fancy stuff that computers are designed for, forget about all this tweaking rubbish .

X-box and PS2 are designed to play games and DVDs, simple as that .

PS2 has a larger selection of games and there is no need to buy a DVD kit to watch DVD's . X-box has an internal harddrive so you dont have to buy a memory card, it also has slightly better graphics .

Both have pros and cons, both are great to play, so it doesn't make much difference what one you buy .

Cheers,

Veale
