179362 2003-09-30 11:39:00 I thought Pinnacle might do it but obviously not. Do DVD players and CD players read the info differently? I am looking for a program whereby my CD player will read a DVD and then I can view it through my CD player. Is this possible? Ironman (3784)
179363 2003-09-30 11:50:00 hey if u mean a cd player on a computer..afraid not...
and i think the same applies to a cd player as in a stero hooked up to the telly...

you need a dvd player specifically and they are pretty cheap these days...$129 @ dicks smith...and hooks up to tv and ur off :)

but if its a "one off thing" like u got a dvd of photos off a friend to look at...you can always ask them to take them and put them onto a cd so u can put onto your computer...but if its a stero hooked to the telly...the only thing that would take is audio cds...

but if dvd has audio on it..i dunno...as i'm deaf and music doesnt have a part in my life :)

anyway...welcome to pressf1

179364 2003-09-30 11:52:00 Nope, not that I know of sorry.

A DVD Player is a more "finely tuned" piece of equipment.. stuffing over 7x the amount of data into the same sized Disc.

You need a DVD Drive to read DVD's sorry :-(

Check pricespy.co.nz, they're down to around $80 now!!

Cheers

179365 2003-09-30 13:06:00 Cd players cant read DVD discs, but my thinking is that if u changed the laser on the cddrive to a DVD laser, then it would work:D but once again wen u do this the Cd drive becomes a DVD drive :D lol so to put it simply, nah u cant do wot u want on it. U could buy second hand drives, they should be in good condition. vk_dre (195)
179366 2003-09-30 21:03:00 But what about the firmware, etc which tells the CD player how to read discs, etc etc??

Don't think it's just a matter of changing lasers around...

179367 2003-09-30 22:18:00 Heh, I flashed the firmware on my DVD drive to region free, and it locks itself to the region I had it on before flashing it.

Thing is, I can flash it back to region-protected firmware and get one change left, change it, flash it to region free again, and get one change... it's rather screwed up, but I feel a complaint to the firmware forums is on it's way.

179369 2003-09-30 23:39:00 if your dvd has hardware region locked you may not be able to change it by flashing the firmware. also once your drive is unlocked you also need to defeat the software region protection. theres heaps of apps for that. tweak'e (174)

I never meant to emply that just changing the laser would make it a dvd drive, i thought it would be kinda obvios by wot i meant, but obviously its not, i know those have to be changed as well, so i just simplified by sayin changin the laser. nything wrong in doin that?

179371 2003-10-01 04:54:00 So you'd essentially be swapping out an old DVD-Rom and swapping all the other bits of hardware into the CD-Rom drive?
