| 179065 | 2003-09-30 04:16:00 | >A counter-strike player isn't going to smoke a joint before a game because >then he would just go "Oh wow man, that's really heavy, I got fragged again. > Bummer" instead of racing around blasting people. I wouldn't be so sure of that. Maybe they are not geeks but there certainly are gamers that do just that. As for sleeping. With some twisted logic I become a morning person as I seem to do the most between the hours of 0100 - 0400. Of course I go to sleep after that so I'd probably be considered more of a night person. |

In the right circumstances they can be a lot of fun. If you think about it, geeks have computers etc as their drug, they become addicted and can mess you up as much as drugs. Dont knock things until you try them! Veale |

| 179068 | 2003-09-30 06:07:00 | I just looked at the people they interviewed about P and wondered how you would get in to it . I mean, do you walk up to a friend and say "I felt awesome when I first took this, and it's never been as good as the first time, but I have thrown away my life trying to achieve the same high . I burgled your Mums house last week, to feed the habit . My wife has left me, wake up in my own vomit regularly, and I think I raped my cat last night . Do you want to try it?" There just doesn't seem to be any sort of "recreational" drug where there is any kind of good outcome and most wreck your brain long term and screw a bunch of other things up along the way . I don't get it, why do people ever start? And are they a certain type of person? Like I started this with, I just don't know any geeks that do any sort of a controlled substance beyond asprin and the basics . But I tried to get sudafed for a cold and the chemist told me he didn't stock it and why (inlcuding three home visits from people wanting the stuff) . I realised that I must lead a hugely sheltered life, or perhaps I am just not as stupid as some people . robo . |

I just have to ask as I get asked by people in cars, on the road whether I want to score a bag of green peace (marijuana). I don't get asked if I'm a geek though but they maybe due with my appearance, I'm only known as a geek by people who know what I do. |

It's not that long ago that chemists in England spent an afternoon each week making up penny packets of opium for the "working men" to buy on their way home on payday. They could afford that; they couldn't afford beer or gin. :-( |

| 179071 | 2003-09-30 07:35:00 | Well, let me see... I've applied or taken at various stages throughout my life: aspirin, panadol, antihistimeines, voltaren, amoxycillin, paracetamol, locoid, robitussin, local anaesthetics, and perhaps sedatives. If you have any idea at all about medicine, you'll be able to tell those are not drugs taken to get "high", but for pain relief and cures etc. Alcohol has been tried in moderation and with supervision too (but not without). I'd consider myself sheltered I guess... As for sleeping... I can go to sleep anywhere between 2200 and 0400, get up between 0600 and 1100. I'm a night person, but only if I have enough energy intake to support staying up, because usually I'm asleep in the early morning hours, so staying up makes me hungry :D |

| 179072 | 2003-09-30 08:10:00 | Graham Carrots or bananas in excess could cause damage. You can get run over by an egg lorry. Personally, I have a genetic condition that means alcohol does more damage to my liver than the average persons liver (although about 1 in 10 europeans have it they don't know they have it). I went without alcohol for like 18 months with no noticeable side-affects, as a bit of an experiment. I've always liked the quote from HHGGTG about "an unpleasant feeling, a bit like being drunk". I have only been sloshed to a point where I couldn't drive about four times in my life (once was at a PC World Awards dinner a long time ago). I have never gone anywhere beyond that. Whilst I know alcohol can destroy lives when used in excess, it really takes quite a lot of effort. It seems much easier to do with P, E, Crack, etc. I just don't get why people get started on these things. A friend I went to school with, who is a bit of a geek (programmer, later in life) has munted himself and had huge psychotic episodes as a direct result of drug use/abuse, but he is only a semi-geek. I am not sure if he counts, but his story is enough to make people stay straight forever. I still don't get the impression that geeks do drugs beyond those prescribed by Doctors (BTW, friend who is a Dr told me the antibiotic that I use to combat a sore throat is more commonly prescribed for Gonnorhea and Syphilis so I approach the chemist in a whole new light, I wish he never told me. I don't go in there any more and say "the old problem has flared up again" and I make sure they can hear my raspy voice and complain about the sore throat about seven times). Will be interesting to see what others say. robo. |

| 179073 | 2003-09-30 08:42:00 | Well, seeing that its the school holidays, I wake up at midday and slave over keeping windows running, playing games and exploring linux (booya!) untill 3 or 4 in the mornin'. So I guess you could call me a night person. Talking about a RECREATIONAL drug that doesn't mess you up, I tried Nitros Oxide once and that's not ment to have any side affects at all and it rocked! I don't do it often. I only do it when I have access to it (like when someone offers it to me) and thats usually when im out partying, which is very rare for me but becoming more of a thing. The only drugs I take are antihystimines, panadol (to combat eye fatigue, does wonders for me), and something with a little codine in it to make the growing pains go away. Other than that and the ocasional NOS, im clean. I think the drugs like P and E are way over the top and I'd never touch the stuff. Tobacco is discusting so is weed (just got the blue screen, see what I mean about mainting windows?) they smell awful! I never want to smell like that. People say I'm a bad little 15 year old and shouldn't be in the top class at school, what do you think? just a bit of NOS every now and then, is that bad? or is it acceptible? I do consider myself a full blown geek, but only when I'm at home or in the comp lab at school. When im out hanging or partying I turn into a completly different person (and that isn't due to the funky stuff). I'm more relaxed, outgoing, friendly. When I'm infront of a computer I am passive, quiet and withdrawn (except for when I'm at LANs). Should I get out more? Stop doing the NOS? I really don't know because no one has really given their opinion yet. | smashedlittlebugger (4397) | ||
| 179074 | 2003-09-30 09:37:00 | No I don't do drugs, never will. I woulda thought computer people have a bit more sense as they need their brain, rather than fry it? Are you getting desperate for column material robo? ;) |
